About Broad Sound

Broad Sound Vol. 2 – Part Two cover art by Lydia Silver

Broad Sound is a journal of arts and culture. Founded at the beginning of 2023, Broad Sound was conceived as a home for long-form arts and culture writing defined however the writer chooses to define it. We published physical volumes in 2023, 2024, and 2025 before shifting online for regular publication.

We’ve published essays on everything from film and TV to painting and photography to literature to music (pop, classical, and opera). We’ve published on athletics, mechanics, and digital life. We publish quick hits and long reads. We love work that’s personal and idiosyncratic, thoughtful and passionate. The goal is to publish the essays that couldn’t find a home anywhere else.

Of course, that’s not all we publish. At Broad Sound you’ll find short fiction, poetry, playwriting, and even videos. Broad Sound is a hub for arts and culture, and we want to provide as much bang for your buck (oh, wait, it’s all free) as we can.

At Broad Sound, we just have one request of you: Think Again.
